Sunflower Hill
About this Nominee
Sunflower Hill co-develops affordable housing communities and offers life skills and enrichment programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).
We are excited to share that we are building a new affordable housing community in Dublin called Grace Pointe, which will provide approximately 60 affordable one- and two-bedroom units, plus a teaching kitchen, fitness space, outdoor courtyard, small garden, community room, and on-site person-centered enrichment activities and programs.
In addition, we are thrilled that 22 units at the upcoming Francis Ranch community in Dublin will be set aside for adults with disabilities, and a new Lafayette project is set to break ground in 2027, offering 48 units, further expanding housing access and choice in the Tri-Valley.
The Sunflower Hill Garden, our 1-acre garden at Hagemann Ranch in Livermore, continues to provide educational, vocational, and life skills training, giving adults with I/DD opportunities to socialize, learn, and thrive through our Hands-On Garden Programs. Our Garden Explorers Summer Camp was an absolute hit—full of laughter, learning, and new friendships!
More than 90% of the organic fresh fruits and vegetables we grow are donated to our incredible nonprofit partners—Tri-Valley Haven, Open Heart Kitchen, Shepherd’s Gate, Culinary Angels, and One Nation Dream Makers. These wonderful partners bring nourishment and hope to neighbors facing food insecurity in our community. In addition, our flower donation program is booming and blooming! Participants assemble beautiful bouquets with flowers from the Sunflower Hill Garden and take them to residents at Heritage Estates and Hope Hospice, bringing smiles to the faces of seniors and those experiencing medical challenges.
Opened in 2020 in Pleasanton, Sunflower Hill at Irby Ranch provides much-needed independent, affordable housing for 38 adults with I/DD while also offering a wide variety of enrichment activities —such as our very popular cooking classes, arts and crafts, movie nights, field trips, and exercise classes—for both residents and the broader community. Sunflower Hill is growing!
